Astra has been the sole agent in Indonesia for Toyota vehicles since 1971. From 1987 to 2003, the joint venture company PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) was the leading manufacturer, assembler and seller of vehicles in the Indonesian automobile market by volume. In recent years, however, Astra has chosen to focus on its key strengths of marketing and distribution. As part of this strategy, TAM was restructured into two different entities in 2003. TAM, now focuses on the marketing and distribution of Toyota motor vehicles as well as its after sale services, while PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), concentrates on vehicle manufacturing.
TAM is also the sole distributor and importer
of Toyota automobiles and component parts in Indonesia.
The foundation of TAM's success is its detailed
knowledge of the domestic market, commitment to
the development of new models and comprehensive
TAM's most successful product to date is the Toyota Kijang light commercial vehicle. Over one million units of the Kijang have been produced in Indonesia and it has introduced the global quality called 'Kijang Innova' in September 2004. The Toyota Avanza compact car has proved another highly popular model, reflecting Astra's growing presence in the small car market. Among other successful TAM products are the Vios, Corolla, Camry, and Crown sedans, Fortuner and the Dyna medium truck.

181 sales outlet (as of December 2005) all over
Indonesia. One of the main dealer is Toyota Sales
Operation, a division of the Company having 58
branches (as of December 2005), trading under
the name "Auto 2000".
